Parents and Carers of children in Mrs Darby’s class,

Welcome to a new school year! Thank you for all your hard work preparing your child for school after the summer break- they all look so smart!

Your children will be heading home for this weekend with a new reading book and reading record, a set of weekly spellings to learn this half term and you’ve already received a log in for Times Table Rockstars.

Reading books will be changed once a week on a Friday- please return them for this day and listen to your child read daily. Children who return their reading book and record on a Friday and have been heard read at least 3 times that week (recorded and signed in their reading record) will receive a Dojo point. It is good for your child to re-read a book to improve fluency over the week and become familiar with new language so don’t be afraid to hear them read the same book more than once.

Spelling tests will take place every Friday. Please make sure you practice these at home with your child throughout the week so they can feel a sense of achievement on a Friday in our spelling test. Your child will receive 1 Dojo point for a score of 9/10 and 2 Dojo points for a score of 10/10.

We will have a times tables challenge on a Friday morning starting with the tables in the following order:

10 times tables – 10.9.21

5 times tables – 17.9.21

3 times tables – 24.9.21

4 times tables – 1.10.21

6 times tables – 8.10.21

8 times tables – 15.10.21

Please ensure your children have their PE kits in school on Wednesday and Thursday. They will be coming home from school in their outdoor PE kits on Thursday so need a bag big enough to carry their uniform and school shoes home.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me through our class webpage. I’ll also post this letter and their spelling lists on that page.

Thank you for all your support

Mrs Darby
